Christopher P. Twyman is a native of Rome, Georgia. He currently serves as the Managing Partner of the law firm of Cox Byington Twyman LLP, in Rome, Georgia.

Chris is a graduate of East Rome High School’s class of 1992 and served as President of his class. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1996, where he majored in Government and minored in History. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1999, where was elected to the Order of Barristers. He also served as a pupil in the Clarke-Carley Inn of Court (formerly the Joseph Henry Lumpkin Inn of Court). Chris served as Executive Chair on the University of Georgia School of Law Moot Court Board from 1998 to 1999 and argued at the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Boston, Massachusetts in 1998. As a member of the University of Georgia School of Law’s American Bar Association Moot Court Team, Chris was a member of the 2018 Regional Championship Team and was awarded Best Brief.

Chris was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1999. He is admitted to practice in all Georgia trial and appellate courts, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Chris has also been admitted pro hac vice to represent clients in state and federal courts in Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Chris is the managing partner at Cox Byington Twyman LLP and leads the firm’s litigation practice. He practices in the areas of commercial and general business litigation, real estate litigation, school and education law, and criminal defense. His practice includes representing clients in complex civil and criminal matters such as actions under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statutes, partnership and shareholder disputes including corporate dissolution actions, and employment discrimination claims. Chris’ practice has included representing government agencies, including having served as a Special Assistant Attorney General and representing the Georgia Department of Transportation on condemnation appeals. He currently serves as the Board Attorney for Rome City School District.

Chris has served as lead counsel and co-counsel on several local and national cases of interest. His cases have been featured on Court TV, NBC Dateline, and Discovery ID, as well as in multiple print media. Chris has also served as counsel in appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the Georgia Court of Appeals, having argued cases before Georgia’s appellate courts.

Chris has been recognized for his accomplishments in the field of law. Since 2021, he has been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine (less than 5% of Georgia lawyers are recognized as Super Lawyers).

In 2022, Chris was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in the United States. Since 2021, he has been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine. Chris is also a Master in the Clark-Carley Inn of Court with the University of Georgia School of Law.

Chris has been in service to the State Bar of Georgia in many capacities over the years. In 2019, the Georgia Supreme Court appointed Chris to serve on the Office of Bar Admissions Board to Determine Fitness of Bar Applicants and served as the Fitness Board’s Vice-Chair until the end of his term in 2022. The Office of Bar Admissions, which includes the Board to Determine Bar Fitness, is an administrative arm of the Supreme Court of Georgia which is responsible for the admission of attorneys to the practice of law in Georgia. In 2021, Chris was named to the National Conference of Bar Examiners Character and Fitness Investigations Committee. Additionally, he served of the Georgia Board or Court Reporting of the Judicial Council of Georgia from 2018 to 2020.

Chris was first elected to the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors in 2017 and chaired the Professional Liability Insurance Study Committee from 2019 to 2021. He was elected to Bar leadership in 2022, and currently serves as the 63rd President of the State Bar of Georgia.
